Sorry (Again)

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

I know I haven’t posted in quite a long time, but I’m still completely swamped in work. Between school (senior year is harder than junior year, despite what everyone says), college applications, play rehearsals, and all that other stuff I do for “fun”, I barely have a social life, let alone time to post on this thingy.

But the good news is that I am nearing the end of my college application stuff and the play is nearing its end (before the next one starts), so I should be back to having free time in the somewhat near future.

Battlefield 2142 Review

Monday, October 23rd, 2006

The premise of the new Battlefield game from EA developer DICE is that the next ice age has begun. Most of the northern hemisphere is under snow and ice and now the EU and the new Pan-Asian Coalition are fighting for the remaining land. Most of the battles in 2142 occur in Europe and in northern Africa. The signature game mode of the Battlefield series, Conquest, is back. DICE has added a new game mode as well, Titan mode. (more…)

Microsoft Screws Over the Consumer, Again

Friday, October 13th, 2006

Microsoft’s long awaited Operating System, Vista, has some horrible restrictions in it. In the Vista Licence, it says that you can only install Vista twice. Most of you think so what? This is the most blatent money squeeze Microsoft could have done. If you take proper care of your computer, you reinstall XP every year or so to clean the thing up. You have to do that because every time a program is installed in XP, it leaves a registry entry, and that isn’t removed. Also Xp fills up with viruses and spyware really easily. What Microsoft has done is make every user who wants to use their computer without massive slowdowns pay twice or three times for the same piece of software. (more…)

Wii Preorder

Tuesday, October 10th, 2006

With today’s news that PS3’s were availible for preorder(and sold out in minutes) at Gamestop/EB Games. I figured that I would go to my local Gamestop and do some detective work. I asked the manager of the store when Wii preorders would be availible. He said ” 24 to 48 hours”. I asked about the deposit. He said “$50 for a Wii deposit”. There you have it. I expect it to be Thursday, just because the launch dates between the 2 consoles is also 2 days apart. Just a theory. No word on a midnight launch, but if they are selling alot of Wii’s, I would expect it.

nVidia’s G80 is Crazy Fast

Monday, October 9th, 2006

A couple days ago, nVidia revealed the specs to its latest GPU, the G80. The 8800GTX gives you 128 unified shaders running at 1350Mhz and a core clock of 575Mhz. It also includes 768MB of memory of GDDR3 running at 900mhz (1800Mhz effective). These specs are insane. Just to compare this to the Xbox360’s Xenos GPU, the 8800GTX has 80 more unified shaders, its core runs 75Mhz faster, and its memory runs 400Mhz faster (effective). That’s crazy fast. The lower end 8800GTS has only 96 unified shaders and only 640 MB of memory. To run a 8800GTX SLI rig, you will need an 800W power supply. Expect the 8800GTX to cost over $600 initially, with a price drop when ATI releases their newest card in late December or January. The 8800GTS will probably cost over $400. Still, either one of these cards smokes everything else out there. It’ll make your brand new PS3 look like crap! (PS3’s GPU is an overclocked 7900GT with 128bit memory) More about the G80 here and a picture here. If you need an upgrade before November, I recommend going on newegg.com and picking up a 7900GTO, it’s a 7900GTX with slower memory and $150 less.

What Games Should You Get This Fall?

Monday, October 9th, 2006

Here’s the idea, I’ll make a little blurb about each game that I think is worth looking into this fall. If you think I missed any, just say so and please try to follow my format for each entry.

World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusades – It’s a WoW expansion, ‘nuff said. Beta testing has been promised. Platform - PC. Release date – late 2006.

F.E.A.R. Extraction Point – The expansion pack to an amazing shooter, it carries on the story where it left off in F.E.A.R. There is a demo available. Platform – PC. Release date – late 2006. (more…)

Heatseeker

Wednesday, October 4th, 2006

What’s better than supersonic jets and the Wii? Using supersonic jets to bomb things on the Wii! That’s what Heatseeker promises. You get a bunch of modern jets, like the F22, F16, F15, and F35, modern weapons, such as fuel air bombs, JDAM’s, and thermobaric bombs (to blow up caves), then go kill things. Sounds fun right? Well it could be best on the Wii if the controls are correct. Nothing is better for flight sims then a joystick, but a Wii-mote could be the next best thing. Keep an eye out for this game, it will be out for all systems March 2007. How could bombing lots of things at once not be a fun game?

Edit: IGN misrepresented which consoles Heatseeker will be on. It will only be on PS2, PSP, and Wii. Take that next gen consoles!

Red Steel

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006

Yes, the first announced 3rd party Wii game has prospective Wii owners intrigued for many reasons. First, the basic gameplay that allows you to swing the Wii-mote and the character translates that motion in the game. Second, its one of 3 FPS (first person shooters) to be released at launch, Far Cry Vengance and Call of Duty 3 are the other ones, but unlike the other 2, Red Steel is an original game, its not the umpteenth iteration of the same gameplay.
